What is an Employer Service Specialist (ESS)? - They are your main point of contact to find out what discount programs are available for your company, due dates for enrolled discount programs, consultation of how BWC Premiums are established and a great starting point for general questions the BWC services. Safety Department
What is the Safety Department? The Safety Professionals below cover all the counties of the Portsmouth Service Office with respect to their individual safety specialty or assistance with the $40,000 Safety Intervention Grant. They are non-regulatory, so they will not report any safety assistance provided to any regulatory system. The services are provided at no additional cost to the employer. This is part of the services provided with the BWC Premiums the employer pays.

Services provided: Facility/operational assessments, safety management assessment, project facilitation, onsite training, and safety team development/enhancement.
· Industrial safety consultation/Construction safety consultation - Assessments and advice related to machine guarding, electrical safety, lockout/tag-out, powered industrial trucks, cranes and hoists, welding, slips/trips/falls and other workplace/jobsite hazards.

· Ergonomics consultation – Assessments and advice related to manual material handling, lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying tasks, repetitive hand-intensive work, sedentary work, awkward work postures and other physical stressors.

· Industrial hygiene consultation – Assessments of airborne contaminants, noise levels, IAQ investigations, confined space assessment, hearing protection programs, respiratory protection programs and thermal stress along with advice on how to reduce employee exposures.
