Sue Via utilizes over 38 years of experience in manufacturing as a strong foundation and reference for implementing or teaching Lean Principles. Her experience spans an array of different industries including manufacturers of automotive, healthcare, and wood products. Sue also has designed, implemented, and sustained specialized "Lean Journeys" for several manufacturers and organizations providing cost savings, reduced inventory, higher quality, and reduced lead times. For 20 years, Sue has taught and implemented Lean process improvements to numerous organizations. He worked his way through the hourly positions until 2008 when he received a Team Leader position. He worked in the Team Leader position for 5 years before receiving the Production Manager position. Speaker: Dr. William Kennedy, Psy.D., Go Dan
Dr. William (Doc) Kennedy is a husband and father of two adult children. He’s a business consultant and sports, clinical, and forensic psychologist based in Wilmington Ohio. He graduated from Wilmington College (’91), where he received degrees in psychology and mathematics. He then attended School of Professional Psychology (SOPP) at Wright State University, graduating with his doctorate in clinical psychology in 1995.
Dr. Kennedy worked as a prison psychologist conducting risk assessments, sex offender evaluation pre-parole evaluate and providing services and therapy in a state correctional facility. He directed the clinical portion of the Duke E. Ellis Institute, a community based mental health and training facility in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Kennedy also directed mental health services at Wilberforce University. Currently, he maintains a full time private practice and consulting practice in Wilmington, Ohio.
As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Kennedy works with individuals and families around various mental health related issues. As a sports psychologist, Dr. Kennedy consults with amateur and professional athletes and organizations to help improve performance, prevent injuries and reduce recovery time, and improve group dynamics and cohesion. As a forensic psychologist Dr. Kennedy works with the courts, law enforcement, and attorneys conducting risk assessments, not guilty by reason of insanity assessments, custody related issues, and treatment.
Dr. Kennedy also has 27 years of experience in martial arts. He holds the Master Rank of Go Dan (5th degree black belt), in Chi-mu Toruku Jitsu. He is a founder of Team Torque Martial Arts, a nonprofit martial arts program also located in Wilmington with the mission of connecting mental health, physical health, and safety & security. Team Torque offers traditional classes, therapeutic based martial arts, and self-protection training.
As a consultant and trainer, Dr. Kennedy works with individuals, and various sized businesses in areas including project development and problem solving, executive coaching, mission and vision development, and planning. Dr. Kennedy has has been the evaluator for a federally-funded violence prevention program involving 19 states and the District of Columbia. Dr. Kennedy provides training and seminars for organizations such as OSHA around workplace violence. He also consults extensively with private and nonprofit businesses around safety issues. Threat assessment, workplace safety, deescalation hostile employees, and training around safety and security are all topics that are frequently addressed. Dr. Kennedy is a consultant to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department and an advisor to the Wilmington Police Department and on their hostage negotiation team.

HFC Steering Committee member, Sue Wiggins, will be leading a discussion on a variety of safety interactions in any industry titled Courage to Intervene. Sue Wiggins graduated from Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH with a double major in Psychology and Business Management. She has worked for Domtar since 2001, where she was hired in to begin taking on the role of Human Resources. However, in addition to HR, she has also taken on the role of Safety/Environmental Coordinator for the past 7 years. Sue Wiggins graduated from Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH with a double major in Psychology and Business Management. She has worked for Domtar since 2001, where she was hired in to begin taking on the role of Human Resources. However, in addition to HR, she has also taken on the role of Safety/Environmental Coordinator for the past 7 years. For our first meeting of the 2015/2016 safety council year, BWC representative, Tim McDermott, will be leading an interactive discussion on Safety Council Programming Best Practices. Out of this group discussion, we will choose the most pertinent meeting topics for the remaining year and our members will have an opportunity to voice their opinions on getting the most out of the HFC Safety Council!
Tim McDermott is the BWC Regional Business Consultant for Southern Ohio. He has more than 25 years of experience assisting employers in the private and public sector. His background includes 20 years with BWC and five years in private insurance providing risk management and business consultation services to employers in the tri-state area. His diverse career also includes 15 years as a small business owner-operator and 11 years as a business technology instructor at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. Tim has been a guest speaker for several civic/professional organizations, colleges and universities throughout the region.
